3.9.09 | In the ordinary course of behavior, not many are interested in legislation, although we have recently seen and it has ever been the case that laws and regulations, or the lack thereof, can affect each of us quite significantly, e.g., U.S. banking regulation and the unexpected application of some provisions of the Florida interior design legislation to non-qualified designers, manufacturers, dealerships and related services.

5.11.09 | Samba Carnivale was the theme as party goers entered the ballroom of the landmark Century Plaza Hotel in Century City for the 21st Annual International Interior Design Association-S.CA Calibre Awards and formal dinner. 5.4.09 | IIDA New York's 20th Annual IIDA Leaders Breakfast packed New York's interior design community into Gotham Hall in NYC last week. It was John Lijewski and Hilda Longinotti's tenth year as co-chairs of the event, and the IIDA NY members and the contract community came in droves, even for the 7:30 AM call time. It was apparent that they were there to celebrate 20 successful years of the event, enjoy the bagel and lox, take in the speakers lined up for the morning and mostly to enjoy each other's close (very close) company.
4.27.09 | Kimball Office and Teknion joined forces to carry the message of Sustaining Interior Design Education to over a thousand interior design firms and studios in architectural firms across North America. (The support of all vendors of interior products are invited and encouraged to participate.) These companies and others were prompt to act to create awareness within the interior design profession of the realistic concern about where the next generation professional interior design educators will come from. This concern is becoming critical as many educators in this field near retirement.
04.13.09 | Teaching interior design students to write and integrating writing into the design curriculum has been the preoccupation of many a design educator. This concern was no less apparent this year at the Interior Design Educators Council (IDEC) Annual Conference, where the conversations were abuzz with ideas about the role of writing in the design process.
3.30.09 | The IIDA Northern California Chapter received rave reviews by combining two of its signature annual events into an evening celebrating both design pioneers and winners of its design award program. And they did it in grand style. Over 750 patrons entered the majestic Fox Theatre beneath a deco movie marquee with the double feature bill of Pioneer's in Design and Honor Awards lighting the night sky.

1.19.09 | Everyone including the AIA knows times are tough. Its semi-annual Consensus Construction Forecast Report predicted an 11% decline in design and construction activity this year and, in response, the organization has developed the Rebuild and Renew Plan, a recommendation to President-elect Obama's administration and Congress regarding the allocation of funds in the administration's economic recovery plan.
1.12.09 | This year's BIFMA Leadership Conference, January 29-30, will be held at the Wynn Las Vegas Hotel, Las Vegas, NV. This is a great annual event and we hope that every manufacturer and dealership leader attending will bring along at least one interior design leader.
12.15.08 | Toward the end of each year, the America Institute of Architects announces its most prestigious one-winner-per-year awards. This year's crop, not surprisingly, reflects AIA's current stress on sustainability and conservation.
