12.15.08 | Toward the end of each year, the America Institute of Architects announces its most prestigious one-winner-per-year awards. This year's crop, not surprisingly, reflects AIA's current stress on sustainability and conservation.
11.3.08 | The entire nation has always looked to Southern California for cutting-edge design, upcoming trends and out-of-the-box thinking. In turn, IIDA Southern California Chapter presented the now legendary Haute Couture Fashion Shows in the San Diego and Los Angeles City Centers.
10.27. 08 | IFMA's World Workplace Conference & Expo is an annual three-day educational and networking event showcasing the trends and new products affecting today's built environment. I attended this year's edition, which was branded the youniversal workplace event, complete with youniversal lapel pins for attendees! (Cute, right?)
10.27.08 | After last year's historic speech at the Catalyst Breakfast by Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. on the environment, Southern California designers continue to thrive on passionate people and smart ideas. This year IIDA's Southern California Chapter held the Catalyst Breakfast at the Century Plaza Hyatt Regency with Wagner James Au presenting, The Making of Second Life.
10.20.08 | Last week we received a heartening press release, one each from the ASID (American Society of Interior Designers) and the IIDA (International Interior Design Association), noting that the respective boards of directors of these organizations had met recently to discuss the future of the interior design profession and issues that face each organization and their members.
10.6.08 | Industry forums and roundtable discussions often disappoint. After long weekends of wordy exchanges, a bit of occasional pontification, and finally consensus building about an issue, ideas soon evaporate without action. However, the Kimball Office Work Group was all business when it met for three days to discuss Sustaining Interior Design Education. It not only succeeded in identifying the problem and challenges, it responded with the attached report: a strategy, complete listing of recommendations and an implementation plan for the next five years.
8.11.08 | On Thursday, July 24th, the W Tuscany on 39th Street in New York City was the venue for IIDA New York Hospitality Forum, which focused on The New Age of Hospitality & Retail Design. A Hospitality Forum record 175 guests were in attendance. The event was co-chaired by Nancy Jackson, President of Architectural Systems, Inc. and Christine McGinnis, IIDA, Director, Visual Communications of aloft and element hotels while the W Tuscany provided attendees with an intimate lounge-like setting.
7.21.08 | The new Haworth showroom in New York was filled to capacity on Thursday, June 26, for the Fourth Annual Lester Dundes Interior Design Competition Awards, hosted by the IIDA NY (New York Chapter of the International Interior Design Association).
7.7.08 | IDLNY (Interior Designers for Legislation in NY) has for the 3rd consecutive time in the past few years succeeded in obtaining the unanimous approval of both houses of the NY State Legislature of a bill (Senate Bill S3659) that would restrict the use of the title of Interior Designer.
