Turning Green into Gold
2.25.08 | In January, I traversed the country presenting to more than 1,000
architects, contractors, engineers, facility managers and public
officials in Boston, Northeast Florida, Philadelphia, and Waco, TX. Along
the way, I met with manufacturers in Boston, Providence, and Atlanta. No
matter the stop or audience, the topic always turned to How do you
measure the performance of a green building?
Random Walk: Interior Design & Health Safety & Welfare
2.18.08| If ever there were an opportunity for the interior design profession to
establish its merits and its bona fides on the issue of health,
safety and welfare and the need to regulate the profession, the FEMA
formaldehyde debacle is just such an opportunity. The problem arose out
of the need for temporary housing for those displaced in Louisiana and
Mississipi by the effects of Hurricane Katrina.
HOK & Gunlocke Team-up for Sustainability
2.11.08 | Gunlocke selected HOK Chicago to renovate and expand its
Chicago Resource Center at the Merchandise Mart. In this
new experience-oriented industry, the redesign is intended to focus on
that aspect, and having been favorably impressed at NeoCon 2007 by the
showroom, we are interested in seeing how our experience will differ this
year. To date, there is no indication about what experience they will be
trying to elicit, but the photos of their Santa Monica and Toronto
showrooms indicate that it should be quite agreeable.
