IIDA Leaders Breakfast San Francisco
10.1.07 | How many of us enjoy the morning? I, for one, am certainly not a morning
person. I need a long runway to get airborne, so to speak. But there are
some things that make waking up easy. For me, the prospect of a powdery
winters day on my snowboard has me jumping out of bed, as does the
prospect of getting on a plane to an unfamiliar place. The unique, the
exhilarating, the long-awaited. Another good example of that was the 2007
IIDA Leaders Breakfast in San Francisco. Thursday, September
13th was a pretty easy morning, certainly made easier by the
prospect of a four-star breakfast.
Getting To Know Nelson
1.22.07 | NELSON is a name that grabbed our attention last
year when it merged with GHK, Chicago, a noted
interior design firm headed by the estimable
Mitchell Cohen. That expansion, as we discovered,
was but one of a series of acquisitions and
amalgamations that signaled a new stage in the
life of what appears to be an increasingly
prominent firm in the built environment. From a
firm with $9 million in revenues in 1990, NELSON
has grown to a firm which, today, has revenues in
excess of $50 million with over 500 professionals
(who they call 'teammates') in 34 offices.

11.13.06 | Participatory democracy is not something that all in
the U.S.
cultivate. In fact, the civic duty that vitalized the ancient Greek and
Roman civilizations has come to have a somewhat unattractive taste for
many since the grossly inequitable operation of the military draft during
the Vietnam War and the increasingly self-serving, or party-centric
maneuverings of politicians since then (not to suggest statesman-like
behavior was the rule before then).
